The start of the Sam Hartman era at Notre Dame has not disappointed. The veteran quarterback and Wake Forest transfer has put on a show in Ireland and he’s resurrected an offense that has seemingly needed a quarterback.

Granted, the Irish are playing Navy who was one of the worst teams in the country last season against the pass and they had low expectations heading into 2023 with new head coach Brian Newberry in charge, but seeing him carve up a defense in his first game with the Irish was really a sight to behold.

And it caught the attention of a Notre Dame legend in attendance.

Joe Montana, who we’ve seen in numerous Guinness commercials, was interviewed during the game and he talked about Hartman and had nothing but good things to say.

Joe Montana: Sam Hartman brings ‘a little juice’ to ND

When legends talk, you listen. So when NBC reporters asked Joe Montana what he thought of Hartman’s performance, you almost collectively heard TVs around the nation turn their volume up.

Montana said that Hartman had been playing great and was excited when the coaching staff finally turned him loose after a very methodical first drive that led to a touchdown. He also went on to say that he brings “a little juice” to Notre Dame’s offense which is something that the program seemed to have been missing for years.

It’s hard to disagree with this as Hartman has over 250 passing yards on the game and four touchdowns. It feels like he may be just what this program needed.
