The push for the 2023 Heisman Trophy is already underway as college football kicked off Week 0 this past weekend and there were two legitimate candidates in action.

Every contender believes that it has a legit Heisman candidate on its roster and fans everywhere are pushing for their guy to be considered. But only a handful of guys really have a shot at winning the award every year.

In fact, one of these eight players is going to win the Heisman Trophy this season.

Originally, I had Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis in this spot, but I truly believe that Quinshon Judkins could be the best running back in the country and it’s hard to discount him as a true Heisman Trophy threat.

As a freshman, Judkins put up some video game-like numbers, rushing for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns on 5.7 yards per carry and he had 15 catches for 132 yards and another score.

When was the last time you saw a freshman running back put up numbers like that in the SEC? It’s almost unprecedented given the toughness of the league and the fact that these guys usually have to wait their turns. Judkins was able to take over the starting job from former five-star Zach Evans who transferred in from TCU. That opened some eyes.

If there’s going to be a running back that finally rises up to win the Heisman this year, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was Judkins as long as Ole Miss remains in the nine or 10-win range.
