Not often do you see a sixth-year college quarterback being talked about as a potential Heisman Trophy contender, but Michael Penix Jr. is that good.

It’s been cool to see Penix come back to life after starting his career at Indiana and then suffering an injury that nearly derailed everything. He needed a change of scenery and ended up at Washington with his former offensive coordinator at Indiana, Kalen DeBoer. This was a match made in heaven as Penix had success at Indiana when he was still there.

The perfect match was evident in 2022 as Penix had one of the best seasons of any quarterback in the country, passing for 4,641 yards and 31 touchdowns with a 65 percent completion rate.

Now he enters his sixth season with arguably the best team that he’s ever been on (even compared to 2022 Washington) and he has plenty of weapons at his disposal.

I expect more video game-like numbers in 2023.
