College football: 1 of these 8 players will win the Heisman Trophy in 2023
A wide receiver on this list? Yes, that’s just how good Marvin Harrison Jr. is.
Plus, DeVonta Smith opened the door for wide receivers to win the award again after he took home the hardware a few years ago. You could argue that Harrison Jr. is an even better receiver prospect than Smith was and that’s what makes him a legit Heisman candidate.
The only caveat to him being a Heisman candidate? He doesn’t have a proven quarterback throwing him the ball. With how good he is, though, that may not matter.
After a quiet freshman season, Harrison exploded in 2022 as the WR1 for Ohio State, catching 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. And it’s fair to believe that he’s going to have an even bigger season at receiver for the Buckeyes. Whoever starts at quarterback (looking like Devin Brown) is going to rely heavily on Harrison Jr.
Will he approach Smith’s numbers during his Heisman year? Maybe, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he got an invite to New York with around 1,500 yards and 15 touchdown receptions.
