Nebraska football has had some bad luck in recent years, but that changed for at least one play on Thursday night.

You wouldn’t blame Nebraska football fans if they feel a little cursed after all the close losses and the failure of the last decade or so.

Dating back to the retirement of Tom Osborne, Nebraska football has been searching for an identity. The Huskers have certainly had a lot of bounces go against them over the years but in the second half against Minnesota on Thursday night, Nebraska finally got a break or at least a bounce to go its way.

On a half-back pass back to the quarterback, Jeff Sims had the ball thrown in front of him. It was supposed to be a flea-flicker sort of play but it was nearly a disaster.

Nebraska football converts potential disaster into TD

Instead of a fumble or the ball going out of bounds, Sims was able to corral the ball and throw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Alex Bullock, who was just put on scholarship this past week for the Nebraska Cornhuskers after joining the program as a walk-on.

Nebraska football still has a lot of work to do in order to win the first game of the Matt Rhule era. However, things have looked good so far.

Sims did throw two interceptions in the first half, including one in the red zone. Yet, he was able to make up for it with a highlight-reel touchdown pass that has the Huskers feeling good about their chances of winning outright.
