1. Wake Forest football records the rare shutout

Defense isn’t exactly a calling card for Wake Forest football, but Dave Clawson’s team will find a way to put on a show on that side of the ball against Elon.

A year ago, Wake Forest had one of the worst defenses in the ACC, allowing over 400 yards per game to go along with 28.3 points but the Demon Deacons did have success in their season opener against VMI, holding it to just 10 points. VMI also only had 222 total yards in that game.

So clearly Wake Forest is capable of shutting down FCS opponents that shouldn’t really be a challenge and I think the Demon Deacons pick up a rare shutout here.

Is this going to get everyone on board with Wake Forest being a legit ACC contender this season? Absolutely not. We won’t really get a feel for this Wake Forest team until Oct. 7 when it travels to Clemson, but a shutout will make fans feel good about the defense’s progress.
