What did we just watch? Did we really just witness a team that went 1-11 last season go into the reigning national runner-up’s stadium and pick up a season-opening win? We sure did.
Colorado football was a heavy underdog heading into the opener on Saturday afternoon against TCU and it responded by winning a shootout, 45-42.
On the right side of that shootout were Deion Sanders and his son Shedeur Sanders who came over from Jackson State this offseason. Along with them came Travis Hunter and he had one of the best debuts in the Power Five in recent memory.
Heck, Sanders had a record-breaking day through the air and put on a show in his first action outside of the HBCU as a collegiate quarterback.
Colorado football QB takes shot at the Power Five
Sanders finished with 510 passing yards and four touchdowns on 38-of-47 completions in his Power Five debut and made sure to let everyone know that he was just having fun out there and didn’t find it to be too difficult.
He went on to say “I think I just had the highest passing yards of my life. I was just at an HBCU” while also stating that TCU let the Power Five label get to them.
Shedeur Sanders: "Nobody believed in us man and it just showed me a lot about how people are.

They let names and they let Power Five and stuff get at us. Hey, I think just had the highest passing yards of my life. It was just like at an HBCU."
Sanders has every right to brag after this win as no one expected the Buffaloes to take down TCU on the road in the opener but maybe this quote will come back to bite him if he struggles later in the year against other Power Five teams.
Either way, I love the confidence.
