Video: Jalen Milroe era at Alabama starts with big TD run
The Jalen Milroe era at Alabama couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. The new Crimson Tide quarterback found the endzone for the first time as the team’s starter on Saturday night in absolutely spectacular fashion.
In Tuscaloosa, the story all offseason centered around the quarterback position. It’s been a long time since the Tide entered a season without a guarantee at the position, dating all the way back to 2016 when it was Blake Barnett who started the season-opener against USC after a battle with Jalen Hurts. After some struggles, Hurts entered the game and led Bama to a 52-6 victory.
Since then, it’s gone from Hurts to Tua Tagovailoa to Bryce Young. That’s seven years of outstanding quarterback play.
That’s also why there has been such a question mark next to Alabama’s name all offseason. At least, a question mark for the national audience.
In Tuscaloosa, the excitement was there for Milroe even before his early-game heroics.
Milroe hasn’t just started strong with his legs. He’s also proven to be an effective passer early on in the season-opener, going 6-for-6 for 47 yards as of 4:08 remaining in the first quarter.

The fight at the top of the SEC will undoubtedly involve Alabama, Georgia, and perhaps Tennessee. The Volunteers are the only team of the three that returns a quarterback, with the electric passer Joe Milton leading the offense on Rocky Top.
Georgia, on the other hand, will see what they have in Carson Beck. As of writing this, he’s 16-of-23 for 141 yards in the Bulldogs’ season-opener against UT Martin. It remains to be seen if he’ll be able to lead this program in replicating the success of the Stetson Bennett era.
For Alabama, however, the early signs at quarterback are exciting. If Jalen Milroe can keep this up, the Tide have a strong chance of returning to glory in 2023.
