11. Nebraska (0-1)

The first game of the Matt Rhule era ended in heartbreak for Nebraska football. The Huskers had a better than 90 percent chance to win, according to ESPN, in the fourth quarter, but two turnovers in the last five minutes doomed the Huskers. Colorado awaits this week and Matt Rhule has a chance to end Nebraska’s 19-game losing streak against ranked opponents. Or, he’ll lose to Coach Prime and his seat will get hot really quick.

10. Michigan State (1-0)

Central Michigan stayed competitive for most of the game against Michigan State. Yet, the Spartans scored two touchdowns to pull away in the fourth. Noah Kim passed for 278 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was sound and Nathan Carter ran for 118 yards. Beating Central Michigan wasn’t earth-shattering, but it was a start.

9. Illinois (1-0)

Yes, Illinois needed overtime to beat Toldeo, but Luke Altmeyer was solid in his debut with 211 yards and two touchdowns. Plus, Toledo is a good football program. Jason Candle is going to get hired away soon. The Fighting Illini won’t be happy that they nearly lost to a MAC team, but a win is a win and Illinois is still a Big Ten West contender in my book.
