Notre Dame football is heading into Week 2 already having played two games this season. The Irish kicked off Week 0 with a win in Ireland over Navy before returning to South Bend in Week 1 to dominate Eddie George’s Tennessee State Tigers.

Now the Irish will get their first true test with a road game against the Wolfpack of NC State and things are going to get interesting in Raleigh for Marcus Freeman’s squad.

Let’s get bold ahead of a sneaky-good Week 2 matchup.

3. Tobias Merriweather finally has a breakout game

OK, hear me out. I’ve been on the Tobias Merriweather breakout season bandwagon since the end of last year and I’m not about to give up my narrative now. I truly believe that Merriweather is one of the most talented receivers from his recruiting class and he’s yet to break out.

That’s going to change on Saturday against NC State.

The second-year receiver had just one catch in 2022 for 41 yards and a touchdown and through two games in 2023, he only has two receptions for five yards and both of them came against Tennessee State. He’s due for a big game, especially with how much he plays.

NC State is going to worry more about guys like Jayden Thomas, Jaden Greenhouse, Chris Tyree, and Deion Colzie and the Wolfpack will completely ignore Merriweather and he sneakily puts together a huge game with six catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Let the breakout begin.
