It’s been a tough season so far for Iowa State football. The Cyclones just lost its second straight game after beating Northern Iowa to start the season.

Matt Campbell’s crew couldn’t take down Iowa at home last weekend and then they went to Ohio to face the Bobcats on Saturday. And they couldn’t seem to muster any offense.

The Cyclones lost 10-7, but many believe that it should have at least gone to overtime if not for a controversial missed field goal call by the refs.

But was it the wrong call?

Iowa State football robbed of a FG?

Chase Contreraz lined up for what would have been a huge field goal to pull Iowa State within one score from 37 yards out. It was a chip-shot try for a kicker like him and it should have been an easy make, but he kept it right.

At the last second, it looked like it may have squeezed through the uprights, but the refs called it no good almost immediately, crushing the Cyclones’ comeback hopes.

Was it no good? See for yourself.

The tweet is a little misleading as this isn’t a “clearly good” field goal by any means. Contreraz kept it right which made it tough to judge and then it went over the upright (potentially) but the angle makes it look like it was good from the other end zone.

If I’m going to be completely fair and unbiased here, I think he missed it by inches — maybe even centimeters. The fact that the refs called it no good so quickly was interesting, but it definitely was not a clear make.

Is this miss going to haunt Iowa State for a while? Most likely. The Cyclones lost the game 10-7 at Ohio and if that kick was a little more to the left, it would have at least given them a shot in overtime.

Tough time to be an Iowa State football fan.
