Alabama football beat Ole Miss convincingly on Saturday. Here’s what we learned from an old-school Crimson Tide victory.

841. 24. 829. Final. 10

Saturday felt like a classic Alabama football victory. The offense was not electric, but it was productive, reliable, and mostly mistake-free. The defense was stout, shutting down an offense that was expected to have a really big day.

Here’s what we can take away from a big Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

1. Rumors of Saban’s end were greatly exaggerated

The high standard that Nick Saban has set in Tuscaloosa has come back to bite him a bit. After a perfectly respectable loss to Texas, the third-ranked team in the nation, questions of the Alabama dynasty’s end began. After a tough win on the road and in the rain at South Florida, panic mode had officially set in for Tide fans.

Then, on Saturday, Alabama football handled a very good Ole Miss team in classic Bama fashion.

It was a reminder that this is still a great program, and Saban is still a great coach. This program, and this coach, have just been so good that we aren’t even used to a little bit of struggle.

Ohio State is a great program, but once a year they struggle to get past an Indiana or a Rutgers or a Purdue in an inexplicable game. It goes to show that Alabama’s first three weeks were not unprecedented for an elite program.

Alabama football doesn’t have the death grip on the sport that it once did, but make no mistake, Saban’s program is still a great one.
