3 Takeaways from Alabama’s convincing win over Ole Miss
3. The Alabama defense is elite as always
Even as questions ran rampant about the end of the Alabama football dynasty, one thing was never in doubt: this defense is awesome. On Saturday, they shut down the dynamic Ole Miss offense.
Jaxson Dart gained yards, 245 to be exact, but he never found the end zone. There was plenty of yardage between the 20’s, but the Tide stiffened up in the red zone.
The Ole Miss running game didn’t even get going in any scenario. On 29 carries, the Rebels gained just 56 yards. Quinshon Judkins was held to just 56 yards on 13 carries. (Yes, that makes it 16 plays from all other ball carriers that added up to 0 yards.)
The Tide also sacked Dart on five occasions, with two coming from Dallas Turner. Turner also had 3.5 tackles for loss. He spent all day in the Rebel backfield.
This group isn’t as star-studded as Alabama defenses of years past, but it is getting the job done in 2023, and names like Turners will become household ones as the year progresses.
