College Football Rankings 2023: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
Another game without Cam Rising after he was a late scratch, another impressive win for Utah.
This is now the fourth time this season the Utes have prepared as if Rising was getting ready to play, but they’ve had to rely on backups and Nate Johnson got the job done yet again. He finished with a solid performance but didn’t need to do too much as the defense shut down No. 22 UCLA on Saturday.
The star freshman for the Bruins, Dante Moore, was held in check as UCLA didn’t score a touchdown until the fourth quarter.
This Utah defense is good enough to contend for titles and whenever the offense can catch up — likely when Rising can return — the Utes are going to be a dangerous team. Heck, they’re already dangerous, ranking near the top 10 (and likely in the top 10 this week) through four games without their starting quarterback. Not many teams can do that.
