Florida State Football: 3 takeaways from overtime win at Clemson
By Dante Pryor
3. Offensive takeaways for Florida State football
There was cause for concern after quarterback Jordan Travis came up lame against Boston College last weekend. Whatever they gave him, it worked wonders. The #4 Seminoles needed everything Travis had this afternoon. The running game never got going, running for just 22 yards. Travis put them on his back and led FSU to victory today.
Travis completed 21 passes for 289 yards, two touchdowns, and — most importantly — no turnovers. With five catches each, wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Keion Coleman were his favorite targets. Coleman had two touchdown receptions on the day, none more important than his game-winner in overtime.
Offensive takeaways for the Clemson Tigers
Quarterback Cade Klubnik looked more comfortable in new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley’s offense. The 19-year-old true sophomore did make a couple of critical errors, however. He took a sack-fumble in the third quarter that Kalen DeLoach returned for a touchdown. On third down and a yard in overtime, Klubnik made the wrong read.
He should have handed the ball to running back Will Shipley instead of throwing the wide receiver screen. Those two critical errors, unfortunately, take away from what was otherwise a solid performance by Klubnik.
Klubnik finished the day with 289 yards passing and two total touchdowns.
