Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis has been leading the resurgent Seminoles since the second half of the 2022 season, and he’s now earned an individual accolade.

When you talk about Florida State quarterbacks, there are a number of all-time great names that come to mind such as Chris Rix, EJ Manuel, Danny Kannell, and Jameis Winston.

But one name usually stands out of the list — legendary Heisman Trophy and National Championship winner, Chris Weinke.

Weinke set numerous school records after stepping away from his dreams of professional baseball at the age of 25 and joining the Seminoles football team, including career passing yards (9,839), single-season yards (4, 167), single-game yards (536), and career passing touchdowns (79), and total touchdowns (81)

Let’s not forget also being the oldest player to ever win a Heisman or a national title.

One of those records was broken today when Jordan Travis hit wide receiver Keon Coleman in overtime for a touchdown in today’s matchup with the Clemson Tigers, breaking Weinke’s all-time touchdown record with his 82nd total career TD.

Travis passed Jameis Winston to move into second in total touchdowns in the opening week game against LSU and has been climbing in the FSU record books all season.

The Seminoles are in a battle with Clemson and their star quarterback, Cade Klubnik to take lead in the ACC standings. At the time of the record-breaking touchdown, Travis was 21 of 37 for 289 yards and two touchdowns, including the record-setter, and one rushing touchdown.

It also happened to be the touchdown that won the game for the Seminoles, which ultimately is probably more important to Travis, who has a reputation for being a selfless team player.
