Quinn Ewers’ Heisman Trophy stock took a bit of a hit last week after looking pedestrian against Wyoming, but he rebounded nicely with a solid game at Baylor and replaces Sam Hartman on my Week 5 watch list. I do believe that Ewers and Hartman could be interchangeable, but it’s hard to keep him off here after he went on the road to beat Alabama three weeks ago.

Ewers is going to need a furious output in the final eight games of the season to truly be considered for the Heisman Trophy as he has just over 1,000 yards passing through four games. That’s far from pedestrian, but those are gaudy numbers like voters look for.

Against Baylor last week, Ewers bounced back with 293 yards and a touchdown on 18-of-23 passing. Not too shabby.

The reason Ewers is replacing Hartman on this list is because he picked up a nice road win at in-state rival Baylor while the Notre Dame quarterback lost at home to Ohio State. A win over the Buckeyes would have vaulted him, especially with his 14 touchdowns to zero picks.

Ewers is top five — for now.
