BYU Football: 3 bold predictions for Big-12 battle against Cincinnati Bearcats
No 3. Kedon Slovis settles in, propels BYU Football with a win over Cincinnati
The one-time USC Trojan and former Pittsburgh Panther has had an uneven start to his tenure with the BYU football team. A lackluster performance in the season opener vs. Sam Houston (145 passing yards, 0 touchdowns) was followed up by a stellar performance against Southern Utah (348 passing yards, 4 touchdowns).
He had a solid outing in helping the Cougars upset the Razorbacks on the road in Fayetteville, but followed that up with a two-interception game against Kansas.
Slovis has a lot of college football games under his belt— 43 to be exact. Some of his miscues this season aren’t all on him. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native won’t have so much pressure on his shoulders if the ground game finally takes shape. Because BYU has been so pass-heavy, it’s making Slovis’ job as a quarterback so much more difficult.
Defenses will have to respect the ground game if the Cougars get that going against the Bearcats and will unlock cleaner passing lanes for the 22-year-old gunslinger. A balanced attack will allow this BYU football team to take the next step in living up to their high expectations.
