Utah football: Is Cam Rising playing in Week 5 vs. Oregon State?
It’s Friday and that means we’re getting an early dose of Pac-12 football as Oregon State and Utah football will square off in Corvallis.
The major storyline ahead of this game will be the status of Cam Rising. The senior quarterback hasn’t played a game this season while rehabbing an injury suffered late last year. When he opted to come back for another season, many believed that he’d be good to go for the opener against Florida, but that wasn’t the case.
Not only did he miss that Florida game, but he’s 0-for-4 on the season in appearances and he will have another chance to take the field on Friday night in Corvallis against Oregon State.
Kyle Whittingham has been playing this injury pretty close to the vest so no one truly knows if he’s going to play against the Beavers as he’s a game-time decision.
What happens in Cam Rising doesn’t play?
If Rising is out again (he’s reportedly been splitting first-team reps in practice), it’ll be up to backup Nate Johnson to take care of business again.
So far, the Utes are 4-0 without Rising, and Johnson has done a solid job in his absence, but it’s clear that the team would probably flourish even more with its veteran leader. Johnson would be the guy if Rising is out again and that might just limit the Utes’ chances to win in Corvallis.
Keep an eye on Twitter closer to kickoff on Friday night as Whittingham may either reveal that Rising is playing or he’s officially out again.
As of right now, it’s a game-time decision for Rising.
