Georgia football: Brock Bowers single-handedly buries Auburn

The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry had its 127th installment Saturday, and it was one of the more memorable games the series has seen in recent years. After three straight Bulldog blowouts, the 2023 game came down to the last couple of minutes, but it was still Georgia who came away victorious.

It wasn’t an easy victory for the nation’s top-ranked team, but down the stretch, one Bulldog took the game over and sealed the huge victory: Brock Bowers.

The tight end was unstoppable on Saturday. He caught eight balls for 157 yards, including the game-winner, a 40-yard touchdown reception that finally gave the Bulldogs the lead.

Of those 157 yards, an astounding 121 of them came in the fourth quarter. In one of the sport’s most historic rivalries, it was a signature moment that immediately goes into the history books.

Not to mention, one of Bowers’ highlight plays was called back after a penalty flag. We could be talking about even more gaudy numbers if this play stood:

As Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson noted on the broadcast, Bowers could be the best player in the nation right now. It’s hard to watch him do what he did on Saturday and not expect to see him in New York for the Heisman ceremony come December. The award has a strong bias toward the quarterback position, but what Bowers is doing is just unquestionably great.

As tremendous as the quarterback play is around the country, no in the sport was more impressive than Bowers on Saturday.
