Can Caleb Williams win another Heisman Trophy in 2023 and Go No. 1? Joel Klatt is a believer after Williams’s performance against Colorado on Saturday.

We have been waiting for a Heisman Trophy moment from Caleb Williams in the 2023 season and he certainly delivered a game full of them on Saturday against Colorado, at least through three quarters.

Whether it was the 71-yard touchdown pass, throwing across his body in the first quarter, or the fact that Wiliams had six touchdown passes and six incompletions at the end of the third quarter — Williams is making a solid case for another Heisman Trophy in 2023.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner sounds like he has Joel Klatt convinced. Following the sixth touchdown pass of the game for Caleb Williams, which put USC in front 48-20, Klatt talked about his hopes of repeating as the Heisman Trophy winner — something only one other player has done.  He also said about Williams, “I think he would probably upgrade 18 NFL teams next week.”

Klatt even compared him to Patrick Mahomes.

At that point in the game, Williams had completed 28-of-34 passes for 374 yards. Of course, he threw an interception, his first of the season on the very next play, which prompted Klatt to say that Williams, “Got Greedy.”

However, that doesn’t change the fact that after his 21st touchdown pass in 5 games (24 touchdowns total), Williams looks like the strongest contender we’ve seen to repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner since Archie Griffin won it two years in a row in the 1974 and 1975.

Williams is a walking highlight and if that continues, along with the video-game-like numbers, especially in the bigger games on the schedule like the one against Colorado, Klatt might be right about Williams having a good shot to repeat as well as go No. 1 in the 2024 NFL draft.
