The late theme of Saturday night’s game in Oxford was “Ole Miss football fans and beer cans.”

In a back-and-forth game that had been wild all night long, Ole Miss fans had plenty to cheer about and even more to groan about.

The defense didn’t come to play and it didn’t help that they felt like the referees were against them, especially after a call late in the game led to an LSU score to put the Tigers up 49-40.

How did they respond? Oh, just by tossing cans of beer onto the field at refs and Brian Kelly was even upset that they were hitting his players or at least coming close.

Just a wild scene.

Obviously this is a bad look for Ole Miss fans, but the call that led to this critical LSU touchdown was not great and they had a reason to be upset. There were even calls to have these refs suspended for making such a bad call in an important spot. Fortunately for Ole Miss, it went down and scored three minutes later to pull back within two.

Ole Miss football fans need to compose themselves

If you think that I’ve never wanted to throw an alcoholic beverage onto a field or court in disgust before, you’re sadly mistaken. But you need to have more restraint than this.

Ole Miss could face a fine of some sort because of this action by the fans and they could have been heavily penalized for this type of thing. That just can’t happen.

Heck, they could stop selling alcohol at games.

Relax, Ole Miss fans. You have a team worth cheering for. Don’t be stupid.
