Texas had reason to celebrate during the Red River Rivalry after a blocked punt for a touchdown and flagging the Horns for excessive celebration is crazy.

College football should never become too much like the NFL, which has earned the moniker of the “No Fun League.”

But man, the officials in the Red River Rivalry game between Texas and Oklahoma sure tried to take some of the fun out of things by flagging the Longhorns for excessive celebration for celebrating a blocked punt which turned into a touchdown.

With the insane emotion and intensity that exists in a game like the Red River Rivalry, the refs need to swallow their whistles and let kids be kids.

To be honest, the celebration wasn’t even that excessive. How do you expect kids to react to a game-changing play that Texas absolutely needed?

Quinn Ewers threw an interception on the opening drive of the game which led to a touchdown and a 7-0 lead for Oklahoma. Ewers then threw a second interception going into the end zone. The ball was tipped and Oklahoma came down with it.

Two interceptions in one quarter is never a good thing. Yet, the Longhorns forced a three-and-out and evened the score in the Red River Rivalry by blocking a punt and recovering it in the end zone for a score, which capped what has been a wild first quarter.

It feels like this is going to be a Classic Red River Rivalry game — not a blowout like last year and hopefully, the players are allowed to celebrate.

We don’t need the refs out here acting like the dad on Dirty Dancing. College football is supposed to be fun after all, and not just for the fans.
