Miami football head coach Mario Cristobal might never live down the loss to Georgia Tech after the Hurricanes could have kneeled but ran the ball.

In one of the worst college football defeats you will ever see, Miami football could have taken a knee with 30 seconds left and somehow lost 23-20 to Georgia Tech.

Miami football was leading Georgia Tech 20-17 and after picking up some first downs, the Hurricanes could have taken a knee. Instead, Miami ran the ball on a third-and-short when it didn’t need to. The ball was fumbled, giving it back to Georgia Tech with around 20 seconds left.

It still didn’t seem like the Yellow Jackets had much hope of pulling out the win as they needed 70 yards for a score and had zero timeouts. However, after a completion across midfield, quarterback Haynes King broke free in the pocket and completed a game-winning touchdown pass to Christian Leary with just two seconds left on the clock.

The Miami football fans threw water bottles and it’s hard to blame them after seeing one of the most shocking defeats in college football history.

For Miami football, it’s a brutal loss. The Hurricanes were 4-0 and had a fifth win locked up. The announcers were talking about the showdown with Florida State, then started asking why Miami was still running the ball.

Lo and behold, Miami fumbled and a few plays later, Georgia Tech won in an outcome you will probably never see again for the rest of your life. A fumble and essentially a Hail Mary all in a matter of minutes but just 20 seconds of game time.

All I know is that Mario Cristobal made one of the worst coaching decisions in college football history. But what a night for Georgia Tech, which also deserves credit for one of the most unlikely wins in recent memory.
