It was another insane weekend for the USC football team. The No. 9 Trojans once again found a way to get the W. They are one of the three remaining unbeaten teams in the PAC-12 conference. USC and Arizona battled it out. It took three overtimes for USC to come away with a victory. USC’s defense stepped up at the end zone. Here are three takeaways from USC football beating Arizona:

The second quarter rally changed things

USC football struggled for most of the first half. It looked lousy. Arizona had all the momentum. The crowd was concerned about their early start, but their rally midway to the end of the second quarter changed everything. The Trojans were making the right plays at the right time, and maybe to make stops on defense.

Caleb Williams had to use his legs

Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t have a great performance. He completed 14 of his 25 passes (56%) and got sacked four times – different from last Saturday when he had six touchdowns against Colorado. However, he tortured the Wildcats with the running game. He ran for three touchdowns and 41 yards. He also scored the game-winning two-point play.

Penalties, Penalties, Penalties

Arizona Wildcats quarterback Noah Fifita had a strong performance completing 25 of his passes (71.4%) for 303 yards with five touchdowns. Running back Jonah Coleman rushed for 143 yards on 22 carries. Arizona should’ve won this game. They had everything going for them, but they lost poise, let the Trojans gain confidence and the penalties killed them. The Wildcats committed 12 penalties. USC football was able to capitalize on some of those penalties that helped them to keep the chains moving.
