Notre Dame football might have just cost Caleb Williams the Heisman Trophy
Notre Dame football has already intercepted Caleb Willaims three times (in the first half), which could end his hopes of repeating as Heisman Trophy winner.
Last season, Caleb Williams arguably won the Heisman Trophy, or at least secured it, with his performance against Notre Dame football.
But this season, after tossing three first-half interceptions, his chances of becoming just the second Heisman Trophy winner to repeat, took a huge hit in the first half of USC’s game against Notre Dame football.
The Irish actually entered the game as a slight favorite, but I don’t think anyone expected Notre Dame football to be leading 24-6 at the end of the first half.
However, when you turn the ball over three times, it’s hard to win. Caleb Williams has had pressure in his face, but all of his interceptions were the result of bad decision-making. Instead of eating it and taking a sack, Williams is throwing the ball up for grabs.
The thing is that most of the time, it has worked. How many times have we seen Caleb Williams run around and make spectacular plays?
Yet, Notre Dame football is applying more pressure than Caleb Williams has seen. He struggled against Utah last season and this is probably the best defense he’s seen since playing the Utes last season.
At any rate, Williams had 22 touchdown passes and one pick coming into Saturday’s game. But Notre Dame football is bringing him back to earth and if the Irish can finish the job, Williams will no longer be the Heisman Trophy favorite.
That might be Michael Penix Jr. and it’s all thanks to the Notre Dame defense.
