11. Purdue (2-5, 1-3)

Some thought that Purdue might be able to give Ohio State a game last week, but the Buckeyes, despite two turnovers (zero for Purdue) won the game 41-7. Hudson Card was awful and the Boilermakers have their work cut out for them in terms of making a bowl game.

10. Illinois (3-4, 1-3)

Illinois hadn’t looked good at all to start the 2023 Big Ten football season, losing three games all by double figures. However, facing a 5-1 Maryland team on the road in Week 7, Bret Bielema’s team responded with a huge 27-24 win. Illinois outrushed Maryland 131-93. Luke Altmyer also threw two touchdowns and just one interception, while the defense had five sacks.

9. Nebraska (3-3, 1-2)

Nebraska has struggled to win Big Ten football games in recent years, but after a bye week, the Huskers find themselves just one game back in the Big Ten West with Northwestern and Purdue coming to Lincoln. Win those two games and the last month of the season will have some intrigue for Nebraska football fans.

8. Minnesota (3-3, 1-2)

The Golden Gophers also had a bye week and will hit the road to take on 24th-ranked Iowa this Saturday. Minnesota was blown out by Michigan in its last game, but that’s not a surprise — the Wolverines are elite. Iowa has been really bad on offense and if Minnesota can win this game, the Big Ten West will really be wide open.
