Big Ten Football Power Rankings after Week 7
7. Maryland (5-2, 2-2)
One week after falling apart against Ohio State in the second half, Maryland showed that, well, it’s still the same-old Maryland, losing at home against two-win Illinois. It was a massive disappointment for the Terps who were hoping to contend in the Big Ten East. That hope is over now. The Terps get a bye week before taking on Northwestern. Games loom against Michigan and Penn State but unless the Terps can win one of those, this season will feel like a failure.
6. (Rutgers 5-2, 2-2)
Following an 18-point rally against Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights make a huge leap in this week’s Big Ten football power rankings. Kyle Monangai scored the game-winning touchdown but it was all sparked by the special teams. This team needs one more win for bowl eligibility which would be a major step forward for Greg Schiano.
5. Wisconsin (4-2, 2-1)
The Badgers missed a big opportunity against Iowa last week. A win would have given them a stranglehold on the Big Ten West with a two-game edge over everyone else. Tanner Mordecai got hurt and Braedyn Locke completed just 15-of-30 passes for 122 yards and one interception. Mordecai wasn’t making an impact when he was in the game. The 15-6 loss has Iowa right back in the mix.
4. Iowa (6-1, 3-1)
Deacon Hill might be the worst starting quarterback in Power-5 college football. He’s completing 38.6 percent of his passes. However, Leshon Williams ran for 174 yards against Wisconsin last week which was a very good sign. If the Hawkeyes can run the ball and play dominant defense, they’ll win the Big Ten West.
