Both No. 3 Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State are 6-0 heading into this Saturday’s pivotal matchup between two Big Ten title and College Football Playoff Contenders.  Here’s why Penn State football will finally pull off the upset.

The Talent Gap has never been this close

James Franklin’s reputation as a Head Coach both at Vanderbilt and at Penn State has been that of a tremendous recruiter with strong coaching staffs that can develop lower-tier prospects into good starters, and good prospects into great college players and NFL draftees. His success in these areas has helped Penn State football defeat some weaker Michigan teams and play close games against Ohio State, but in the OSU rivalry, it’s been the other team making the big play, and it’s usually by one of their elite players.

Some of those teams Penn State football fell short against were elite and inarguably more talented than Penn State, who still made NY6 bowls in 2017, 2019, and 2022.

Now, Penn State’s roster depth in 2023 has gotten as close as we have seen to the kind that the Buckeyes consistently boast. the Nittany Lions had big plays big stars like Saquon Barkley and Jahan Dotson, but lacked other playmakers across the board to get wins in almost all of those years. This year, they have what they need at the key spots and to stay fresh in what projects to be a battle of a game, with a 4.5-point spread and a 45.5-point over/under according to DraftKings.
