Heisman Trophy watch list: Top 5 candidates ahead of Week 8
Jayden Daniels has been rising quickly over the past few weeks.
Although he has put up some gaudy numbers this year, he was almost eliminated from the Heisman Trophy race a couple of weeks ago when it looked like the Tigers were going to drop their third game of the season with a loss at Missouri.
Daniels engineered the comeback at Missouri, passing for 259 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another 130 yards and another score. All he did in Week 7 was put up 325 passing yards and three touchdowns as well as 93 rushing yards in a blowout win over Auburn.
LSU is ranked No. 19 in the nation and Daniels has put up some impressive numbers that actually rival what Joe Burrow did in 2019 through seven games.
We won’t learn much more about Daniels this week as LSU faces Army, but he can pad his stats a bit. So far in 2023, he has 2,294 yards and 22 touchdowns with three picks and nearly 500 rushing yards.
