Texas only leads Houston 24-21 in the fourth quarter and now the Longhorns are without their starting quarterback. Quinn Ewers has left the game with an injury and is questionable to return. Steve Sarkisian turned to Maalik Murphy, not Arch Manning and Murphy delivered a three-and-out on his first drive.

The Texas Longhorns and Quinn Ewers jumped out to a very hot start against the Houston Cougars today in Houston. Ewers threw two touchdown passes and Texas ran for another touchdown to take a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but since that point, it’s been Houston’s game.

Ewers was 23/29 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns when he left the game, but a lot of that production came in the first half. Texas will likely need to add insurance to hold off Houston and it is up to Murphy to do it. The freshman had only attempted six passes in his entire career before this game.

Ewers has thrown for 1,704 yards this season on 69.6% completion rate with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. He is the only quarterback that has taken snaps.

Arch Manning has still not played despite reportedly taking reps with the second team in the week of practice prior to this game.

Quinn Ewers Injury Update:

Ewers left the game against Houston in the fourth quarter with what appears to be a shoulder injury and missed the Longhorns’ subsequent drive. Ewers headed to the locker room, presumably for treatment on the injury. It is unclear if he will be able to return.

There is no further update on the injury at this time.
