Three takeaways from Ohio State football’s

This afternoon was supposed to be decided by the play of one of the two quarterbacks. First-year starters Drew Allar and Kyle McCord are looking for their signature games. McCord made some plays against Notre Dame, but today was at the horseshoe.

Analyst Joel Klatt said it best about Drew Allar: He has more ability than they’ve been using. The former five-star recruit has managed games well but has not pushed the ball down the field.

None of that happened this afternoon. Today was about the defenses. Both defensive fronts were outstanding today. Neither team could get anything on the ground, and the penetration forced some errant throws from both quarterbacks.

In close games, it’s often the little things that make all the difference in the world. Ohio State executed better down the stretch, so they won the game.
