College Football Week 8 loser: Caleb Williams and USC

There will be a new Heisman Trophy winner this season. Caleb Williams had another so-so outing. USC football did rally from a double-digit deficit, but the Trojans lost to a Utah team playing its backup quarterback.

Williams threw for 256 yards and zero touchdowns. He didn’t have any interceptions and also ran for 27 yards and a touchdown. USC football grabbed the lead later on a Williams touchdown run with 1:52 left.

The 15-yard scamper put the Trojans in front 32-31. Of course, the defense allowed Utah to get in field goal range before eventually winning the game.

That shouldn’t doom Caleb Williams’ Heisman hopes but look at Bryce Young last year. When Tennessee made a game-winning field goal and Bama lost to LSU in overtime, his Heisman hopes were finished. It’s just the way it works and I don’t see Williams repeating after another loss.
