CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA – OCTOBER 14: Head coach Mack Brown of the North Carolina Tar Heels watches his team play against the Miami Hurricanes during their game at Kenan Memorial Stadium on October 14, 2023 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 6. Miami Hurricanes (1-2, 5-2):

Let’s not bury the lede here: Mario Cristobal must be as hands-off as possible during the games. Despite beating Texas A&M, he made some questionable decisions. We all know what happened against Georgia Tech and don’t speak about it here at headquarters. There were also some head-scratchers against Clemson. Maybe let the coordinators make those in-game calls.

5. #17 North Carolina Tar Heels (3-1, 6-1):

He does not always win his clunkers if there is one knock against head coach Mack Brown. Drake Maye has not looked sharp in the last couple of games. Devontez Walker has played three games and is already the team’s third-leading receiver. The offense can’t be chuck it to Walker and pray.

They must dust themselves off and take care of business against Georgia Tech. They have Campbell before hosting Duke for the Victory Bell.

4. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1, 3-4):

Someone will ask, “Why are the Hokies so high in the rankings when they were off?” That’s a darn good question. The answer is simple: chicanery, tomfoolery, and hijinks. Miami can’t get out of its own way, UNC lost to hapless UVA, and Louisville did a very Jeff Brohm thing.

Also, it’s hard not to love how hard these guys play for Brent Pry. The roster is not very talented or very deep. That said, man, they put their nose to the grindstone. Looking at the schedule’s last five games, three wins are left for the Hokies based on how they play.
