We have a new No. 1 in our weekly ranking of college football quarterbacks.

Things keep changing in the world of college football quarterbacks. The Heisman Trophy race looks a lot different than it did two weeks ago and so do our power rankings.

Caleb Williams has taken a fall. He didn’t really play poorly on Saturday. In fact, he rallied the Trojans to put them in a position to win. But the defense let Williams down again. He also wasn’t the No. 1 overall pick quality for the second straight week.

J.J. McCarthy, on the other hand, is starting to look like the best prospect in the NFL. I’d take him over Williams if I had the top pick in the draft. Michael Penix also struggled with a couple of interceptions, even though the Huskies survived.

There are still four players from the Pac-12 in our ranking of college football quarterbacks and here is our updated top 10 after College Football Week 8.

10. Carson Beck, Georgia

Carson Beck is completing 73.6 percent of his passes this season and has 12 touchdowns to go along with four interceptions. There have been some frustrating moments for Georgia fans, but it takes time to learn the quarterback position and Beck is getting better as the season goes on. Beck was off last week, but he ranks 14th in QBR and now that Quinn Ewers is hurt, we decided Beck deserved to make the cut after narrowly missing it last week.

9. Drake Maye, North Carolina

It’s hard to blame Drake Maye for the loss of North Carolina last week. Maye threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a key interception late, which was costly. But he also added a touchdown run. Maye is still one of the better quarterbacks in my book, but he still hasn’t lived up to expectations this season.
