4. Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma

Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel helped the Sooners escape against UCF thanks to 253 yards and three touchdowns. He did have one interception though. He also ran 10 times for 22 yards. Gabriel ranks 14th among college football quarterbacks in passing yards and is fourth in QBR. He did drop from No. 2 last week, but that was more about J.J. McCarthy and Jayden Daniels than about Gabriel, although it wasn’t his best performance.

3. Michael Penix, Washington

Penix and the Huskies survived against Arizona State but it was a struggle. Penix was held to 275 passing yards and tossed two interceptions. Penix isn’t really a runner and doesn’t add much on that front. The Huskies scored just 15 points, which isn’t promising. The rough outing was enough to drop him from No. 1. It has also hurt his Heisman Trophy odds. J.J. McCarthy is the betting favorite, however, that was Caleb Williams two weeks ago so it’s just a reminder that when it comes to college football quarterbacks, a lot can change in a week or two.
