2. Jayden Daniels, LSU

Even though the LSU Tigers aren’t in the mix to make the College Football Playoff, Jayden Daniels is having the kind of season Lamar Jackson did when he won the Heisman Trophy. That’s the best comparison I can come up with. Daniels leads college football quarterbacks with 25 touchdown passes. He’s also second in passing yards (2,573). Beyond that, Daniels has been as good a runner as any quarterback with 521 yards and five touchdowns, as well as a 5.7 per carry average. However, Daniels ranks No. 2 in QBR. Regardless, he’s a legit Heisman contender.

1. J.J. McCarthy, Michigan

Just like Dean Smith was the only coach who could hold Michael Jordan under 20 points, Jim Harbaugh is similar with J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy is never going to have the same kind of numbers as Jayden Daniels, but he did throw for 276 yards and three touchdowns in the first half last week, as well as four total.

Next. College Football Playoff and Bowl Projections after Week 8. dark

McCarthy now has 21 total touchdowns this season and leads college fooball quarterbacks in QBR. He’s going to have to ball out against Ohio State and Penn State if he’s going to win the Heisman Trophy, but right now, he’s our new No. 1.
