3 reasons Kansas football will upset Oklahoma
The Kansas football team will host the 6th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday. Is this the Big 12 spoiler we’ve been waiting for?
The Kansas football team is building towards being competitive in the Big-12 Conference and has shown some signs of progress this season. They have one of their biggest tests this Saturday as the Oklahoma Sooners will be in town. The Jayhawks are heavy underdogs, but should they be? Here are a few reasons why I believe the Sooners are in trouble on Saturday.
1. Oklahoma is still riding the big game wave
Part of the reason this is not being previewed as a competitive matchup across the country is the #6 ranking of Oklahoma. The Sooners shot up the board after their last-minute victory over the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry.
That is really the only test they have had, and the Jayhawks are no picnic, having beaten a few quality conference opponents convincingly already this season, namely BYU and UCF. This game is going to wake Oklahoma up and show them that this is not cruise control to a rematch with Texas at the end of the year.
Without Jalon Daniels (questionable), this will be a more difficult task for Kansas football. Either way though, I expect a competitive game that goes down to the wire.
2. Biggest home game of the season
This is the most important game for Jayhawk fans as it is not only a home game against a top-10 opponent, but also a homecoming game. This will be an incredibly difficult environment for Oklahoma to walk into, especially with excitement around the Kansas football program building as they have been more successful in the past two seasons than they have been in a long time.
These types of environments can bridge a talent gap at times, especially if the superior team does not bring their A-game or makes some mistakes early.
3. It feels like Kansas football is a spoiler team
I can’t shake the sneaky feeling I have that Kansas is going to spoil someone’s hopes and aspirations this season. They couldn’t get it done against Texas, and as mentioned, they get Oklahoma later in the year in an ideal atmosphere.
Kansas football appears to be in a tier with teams like Washington St, Florida, Maryland, etc. These teams are going to require the top-tier programs to come prepared in order to not get beat. They will take advantage of miscues and if they are able to hang around into the 4th quarter, look out.
