Heisman Trophy watch list: Top 5 candidates ahead of Week 9
Jayden Daniels threw a total of 15 passes in Week 8 and he’s still going to remain at No. 2 in these Heisman Trophy power rankings.
Why?
Well, because his 15 attempts resulted in 11 completions for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-0 win over Army. While the opponent wasn’t exactly a juggernaut, averaging 18.6 yards per attempt is just an insane stat. He completed 11 passes for nearly 300 yards. It’s hard to even fathom that. Those are video game numbers.
Daniels looked like he was going to fall out of the race earlier in the year, but he’s bounced back nicely after nearly losing two straight games to Ole Miss and then Missouri. That comeback he engineered at Mizzou got him on my Heisman radar and he’s only strengthened his case since.
The Arizona State transfer has completed at least 71 percent of his throws in four straight games and he has an astounding 25 touchdowns to just three interceptions on the year.
On top of that, he has over 500 rushing yards and five more scores. So he has accounted for over 3,000 total yards and 30 touchdowns this season and there are still four games left. He’s on pace to account for over 4,500 yards and 45 touchdowns. That’s Heisman-worthy.
