Oregon football notched an impressive win over Utah on Saturday night and here are three takeaways for the Ducks.

Did we see what we think we saw? The outcome of the game is something that many of us college football fans didn’t see coming. The No. 8 Oregon football shocked No. 13 Utah in what was one of the most dominating performances of the season.

Oregon football won by the final score of 35-6. The Utah Utes have been playing so well lately. The Utes got a huge road victory over the USC Trojans last week but didn’t show up against the Ducks on Saturday afternoon. Here are some takeaways from Saturday’s win for the Ducks.

Bo Nix Sets the Tone From the Get-Go

It’s time to put some respect on Bo Nix’s name and consider him for the Heisman Trophy. He has been one of the best quarterbacks of the season. We all know what kind of seasons Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr, etc are having. Bo Nix is saying “What about me? How are you going to disrespect me?” In this game, he made a statement loud and clear. If I were the Oregon football head coach, I would be very happy with what I’m seeing from my experience quarterback. Nix was on fire from the start of the game — making terrific plays. Nix completed 24 of his 31 passes and threw for 248 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns. No interceptions.

Utah’s Defense Got Exposed

This game is arguably the worst defensive performance by Utah in a long time. The Utes had no answer to stop Bo Nix and Oregon’s offense. Oregon football was able to convert 5 of their 10 third-down conversations. Utah gave up 390 total yards. Utah’s defense looked lost all game long. No sense of urgency. No tenacity.

Oregon’s Secondary Were Physical

The Ducks defense has gotten better over the years. It’s really impressive how collectively they’ve come together and improved this season. In this game, the Oregon secondary was physical on the Utes’ receivers and was all over the place. Cornerbacks Jahlil Florence and Khyree Jackson combined for 14 tackles. Safety Evan Williams added 7 tackles. Three defensive players on this squad deserve the game ball alongside with Bo Nix.

The Ducks sit at 4-1 in conference play, tied with Oregon State and USC. Also, Oregon will be playing both teams in the month of November. We are in for a fun ride in the PAC-12.
