4. Arizona Wildcats (5-3, 2-2):

When the announcement about Arizona’s new head coach came across the FM radio here at headquarters, there was a collective “who?” Well, we know who Jedd Fisch is now. He’s a heck of a football coach. His diminutive dynamo, quarterback Noah Fifita, has taken the starting job from Jayden de Lauria. This is a good team that could win eight or even nine games.

3. #20 USC Trojans (7-2, 5-1):

Looking at the Trojans is all about perspective. We knew the defense was going to be bad. We knew the offense was going to be electric. That said, they have these spurts where the offense sputters, and that’s why they’ve lost two games. Despite all of the issues in Hollywood, if the Trojans win out, they’re playing for the Pac-12 title.

2. #6 Oregon Ducks (7-1, 4-1):

Is there a team playing better football than the Ducks in the conference? Bo Nix is playing his way to New York City. Bucky Irvin is the best running back no one talks about, and the defense is the real deal, which should come as no surprise. Oregon is playing like they want a rematch against Washington.

1. #5 Washington Huskies (8-0, 5-0):

The Huskies look like a different offense without Jalen McMillan. He’s one of several injuries Washington has to deal with. What’s worse is the defense is not playing well. They are playing an explosive USC squad this weekend, and the defense has to play better than it did against Stanford. They’ll lose if they don’t.
