The LSU Tigers have consistently put up massive numbers on the offensive side of the ball. Can they keep it up against a tough Alabama defense?

Alabama hosts LSU football on Saturday, November 4th. This is a top-15 matchup with a lot on the line for both teams, but particularly for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama is still in a prime position to make a run at an SEC title and a College Football Playoff berth.  There are still a few tough games on the radar to get to that point, one of which is coming up this weekend.

Historically this has been a defensive battle, sometimes with less than 20 points scored in the game. It’s hard to see that happening here, with LSU football routinely scoring 40-60 points. Here are a few reasons I believe the Tigers will emerge victorious in this matchup.

1. Alabama is still figuring out who they are on offense.

Nick Saban has gotten a taste this season of what it feels like to not have the stud quarterback that everyone wants. He had to throw a couple of different options into the mix earlier this season to figure out who his guy was going to be.

It has become clear that Jalen Milroe is the guy, and he has played well overall. Still, Alabama has had to rely on their defense more than they have in past years, and their victory margins have been smaller. They have perhaps the best offense in the country visiting this weekend, and they will need to be able to put some points up on the board.

2. This is Alabama’s biggest game since Texas

The SEC is perhaps a little more top-heavy this season than it typically is. Alabama has not had to bring their A-game to win all of the games on their SEC schedule, at least not to the same degree as in previous years.

We saw what happened against Texas. Some of Alabama’s youth and inexperience showed and they were not able to make plays when it mattered most. There will not be room for error against this LSU team. The talent gap is not much if anything. The Tigers matchup with them player for player in terms of talent and athleticism.

3. LSU’s offense is too much

Alabama has played well defensively this year. However, the competition has been less than stellar as mentioned previously. They gave up 34 points against Texas earlier in the year. I believe LSU football will put up at least that many points.

LSU has tripped up a couple of times this season, but even in those matchups, it was not because they couldn’t score points. They are a well-oiled machine, and while this defense is one of the best they will see, it is not the Alabama defense of previous years.

In order for my prediction to be wrong, the Alabama offense will need to have the best game of the season, and they will need to play a game free of turnovers because you better believe Jalen Daniels and company will cash in on any miscues.
