Clemson fans starved for reasons to celebrate rush field after snoozer win

Is everything OK, Clemson fans?

I know, it’s been a long season filled with disappointment, but things have perked up over the past couple of weeks with wins over Notre Dame and now Georgia Tech to reach bowl eligibility yet again under Dabo Swinney, but what ensued after the win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday was just wild.

It was almost un-Clemson-like.

Following a dominant win over the Yellow Jackets to reach six wins and bowl eligibility, Clemson fans rushed the field much like they did last week after beating Notre Dame.

I’d be willing to bet that a number of Clemson fans are embarrassed by this rushing of the field after beating a 5-4 Georgia Tech team, but this is still a really bad look for the fanbase. This once-proud program (it’s still proud but it doesn’t feel that way this year) has apparently fallen on some hard times, storming the field after beating a mediocre team.

Are they just looking for reasons to celebrate? Were there too many adult beverages in play? Are they just celebrating Veteran’s Day? Is everything OK at home?

I have so many questions.

Is Clemson really down this bad?

The Tigers have reached bowl eligibility, as stated before, but since there will be no ACC title, playoff berth, or New Year’s Six bowls to celebrate, maybe Clemson fans are getting all of their excitement out now.

I’d also understand if this was senior day, but it’s not. The Tigers play North Carolina at home next week.

So to recap: Clemson beat a slightly above-average Georgia Tech team that’s not exactly a fierce rival and fans celebrated by rushing the field because they made a bowl game.

Man, how the mighty have fallen.
