5. Mike Elko, Duke HC

This may not be the sexiest name for Texas A&M, but considering he spent time in College Station under Jimbo Fisher and had a ton of success as the defensive coordinator before earning his head coaching job at Duke, it makes a ton of sense.

The fact that Elko is having success at Duke should be enough to win the athletic department over. And he knows how to recruit at Texas A&M because, well, he did it at a high level between 2018-2021 and he’s a big reason why the Aggies were solid in that span.

Elko came in with Fisher in 2018 and was the most successful assistant on the staff which is why he was poached by Duke and since he’s been in Durham, he’s experience nothing but success.

In fact, Elko is 15-8 at Duke with two straight bowl berths. Again, he’s winning consistently at a program not known for football success. That deserves a ton of credit.

Texas A&M would hit a home run with Elko, even if he’s not No. 1 on everyone’s board.
