5 coaches whose jobs will be saved this year by the 12-team CFP in 2024

Chip Kelly, UCLA
It is not 2012 anymore. We already saw Jimbo Fisher flame out at Texas A&M after dominating college football a decade ago, and Chip Kelly might be next. UCLA did the nearly unthinkable on Saturday, the Bruins lost to Arizona State.
The Sun Devils are on really hard time right now and are the only team with more quarterback injuries than UCLA has had. That loss dropped Kelly’s team to 6-4 with USC and Cal left on the schedule.
If he ends this season 6-6, then it could be his last at UCLA, and his last as a Power-5 college football head coach. Kelly hasn’t reached the heights of his days at Oregon, but he went 8-4 in 2021 and 9-4 in 2022. Depending on the season that could sneak a team into the expanded College Football Playoff.
The expanded playoff isn’t the only thing helping him keep his job. The injuries at quarterback are a great excuse too. Dante Moore will need to take the next step as a sophomore in 2024 against Big Ten defenses.
