Oregon football: 3 future opponents the Ducks should schedule
By Bryan Peraza
2. Miami Hurricanes
Last meeting: 1958
All-time series: Miami leads 1-0
As crazy as it sounds, the Ducks and Hurricanes do have a bit of history on the gridiron, with the only game in the series being a bizarre 2-0 win in favor of the Hurricanes.
Now, 65 years later, most Duck fans remember that after the team’s consecutive losses to the Utah Utes in 2021, their then-head coach, Mario Cristobal, decided to leave for the Hurricanes program after the firing of Manny Diaz, which lead to the hiring of the Ducks’ current head coach, Dan Lanning.
A lot of people would look forward to this potential game as a result of the involvement of Cristobal on both programs, but there’s not only that. as many people feel that Oregon was snubbed of a chance at appearing on the 2002 Rose Bowl (which also served as the national championship game), where the BCS rankings controversially ranked the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the No. 2 spot despite losing to the Colorado Buffaloes in a blowout and not even making the Big 12 title game.
Had the rankings for the next season been used in 2001, Miami would have played Oregon for the title.
By the way, there could be some fun interactions by The Oregon Duck and Sebastian the Ibis on the sidelines if a matchup were to happen.
