Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are generally happy with Matt Rhule in Year 1, but most have already soured on a key part of his staff. Nebraska is 109th in total offense and is trailing Wisconsin 17-14 in Week 12. Nebraska fans are holding offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield responsible.

The Cornhuskers have had a lot of success on the ground, with 135 rushing yards near the start of the fourth quarter against the Badgers. They are 42nd in the country in yards per rush at 4.5, but Satterfield insists on throwing the ball with Chubba Purdy.

Purdy seems to be an improvement at quarterback, but the Nebraska passing game is far from a strength. It came in ranked 116th in yards per attempt at 6.1 and today Purdy is 14/19 for 164 yards and a touchdown. Still, Nebraska fans are ripping into Satterfield’s refusal to stick with the ground game. Purdy has run for 74 yards and a score on 11 carries, but most have been scrambles.

Some have even taken to invoking the Blind Side and the famous line, “run the ball.”

Wisconsin is 42nd in rushing defense this year, but isn’t putting up much resistance to Nebraska’s rushing attack. Satterfield seems to get tired of doing what works and Nebraska fans are getting tired of Satterfield.

Nebraska could still pull off a win, but it won’t take the heat off of Satterfield. Matt Rhule may have to look for another offensive coordinator this offseason, but there’s a chance that playing three different quarterbacks and not getting good performance from any is the bigger reason for the offensive ineptitude.
