For reference, J.J. McCarthy is first on that list from before with an adjusted completion percentage of 80.9% and an ADOT of 10.6. You could make an argument that he’s been the best quarterback in the country this season. Yet, Michigan decided they didn’t need to throw once in the second half against Penn State, so he’s disqualified from the Heisman race.

Obviously, McCarthy is vitally important to the success of Michigan against Ohio State this weekend, but he needs somebody to throw to. Kyle McCord on the other side has an embarrassment of riches at wideout, but Michigan is built in a very different way.

The running game is Michigan’s bread and butter, especially with Sherrone Moore now the gameday head coach along with offensive play-caller. With his offensive line background, he loves to pound the ball with Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. However, the passing game is still important, especially generating explosive plays.

That’s where Roman Wilson comes in. He’s averaging 16.5 yards per reception and is Michigan’s leading receiver with 37 catches for 612 yards and 10 touchdowns. Michigan is 110th in the country in pass plays of 30 or more yards with just 11. Wilson has accounted for at least one of those plays in four games this season.

Wilson is listed on the injury report this week and if he can’t play against Ohio State then it’s a huge swing in the Buckeyes’ favor.
