The Game: 3 bold predictions for #2 Ohio State against #3 Michigan
Buckeyes Defense / Special Teams to force 2+ turnovers
Now, speaking of immovable objects, the Buckeyes possess an immensely talented defense as well. According to Team Rankings, OSU clocks in at #2 in the country for scoring defense (9.5 ppg). However, Ohio State is a measly 109th in the land in regards to takeaways per game (1.0).
Meanwhile, the Wolverines offense, led by quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum, ranks fifth across the country in giveaways, as they only turn the ball over once every other game (0.6 per game). Hence, a prediction of OSU forcing Michigan into multiple turnovers is rather bold. But I believe it can, and ultimately will, happen. The pressure that’ll be put upon McCarthy by a pair of consensus five-star defensive ends in J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer will be immense. In addition, passing lanes will be tight and rushing alleys will be clogged.
As a result, the Wolverines will be rattled despite being inside their friendly Big House confines, thus capitulating or rather coughing up the ball on at least a couple of occasions.
