Alabama football was one play from being knocked out of the playoff race, instead, a miracle touchdown gave the Tide the Iron Bowl win.

There have been some wild endings in the Iron Bowl, but Alabama football fans won’t soon forget the end on Saturday as the Crimson Tide used a miracle touchdown pass on fourth down from Jalen Milroe to Isaiah Bond to escape with a 27-24 victory.

Leading up to the play was a barrage of mistakes. After a fourth-down conversation, Alabama football had a first-and-goal down by four points.

That’s right where you wanted to be as Alabama. Yet, a bad snap caused a 20-yard loss and a fourth-and-goal from the 31-yard line.

With their College Football Playoff and national title hopes hanging in the balance, Jalen Milroe, the quarterback that just about everyone doubted, tossed a dart to the back of the end zone and it was caught, with one foot down by Isaiah Bond.

If you need to see it again, here it is.

I definitely needed a second look because that was one of the most incredible wins I’ve seen in a long time. It reminded you a little of the kick-six because it was so unlikely.

Regardless of how it happened, what it means is that Alabama’s national title hopes are alive and well. The Crimson Tide is going to have to beat Georgia next week in the SEC championship game which will be a tall order, but if that happens, college football will have a new national champion.

That doesn’t mean the Tide will make it though. If Michigan beats Iowa, they will be in. So will the Pac-12 champion and Florida State if it wins out.

If Alabama wins and Texas also wins, both teams would be 12-1 with a conference title. It would be hard to vote against the Longhorns and their head-to-head win.

It’s possible the committee chooses Alabama and/or Texas over Florida State, even with it being undefeated, but it doesn’t seem likely.

So for Alabama, it’s not as simple as win and in. However, without that miracle touchdown, the Tide would be eliminated.

Now, they have a shot at  another SEC title, and maybe, a College Football Playoff berth.
